About the Conte
Conte is a spindle-back carver: a curved top rail over slender spindles, with splayed back legs and a linen-style cream cushion on the seat. The frame is solid wood with an oak-coloured finish rather than solid oak, so it tones with an oak table without matching the grain, and reads as a light contrast beside elm.
At 55cm wide it takes a little more room than a standard side chair. We suggest it at the ends of the table, where the arms have space, or as the one chair in the house that everyone heads for.
From our experience
- Our dining tables are 75–76cm high as standard (71cm legs under a 40–50mm top), which suits a dining chair with a 45–48cm seat. If we are making your table to a different height, tell us which chairs you have and we will check the clearance.
- Allow 55–60cm of table length per person. A 55cm-wide carver uses the full 60cm, which is why it suits the ends of the table rather than the sides.
- An oak-coloured finish on solid wood will not match a solid French oak top grain for grain. It sits most naturally beside our oak tables, and gives a lighter contrast against English elm.
- The frame wipes clean with a damp cloth. Keep it away from radiators and out of direct sun, as with any finished timber.
