Choose our handcrafted Live Edge Shelves for a blend of natural beauty, bespoke design, and enduring quality that stands the test of time
.

Step 1: Choose A Wood Species

The first thing to consider when ordering your bespoke shelf, is what species of wood you want it to be crafted from.

We are able to source quite literally any species of wood imaginable, however most of our customers choose between our best-selling options which are illustrated below and offer a wide variety in colour shades to suit any interior.

Each shelf is made from one single solid piece of timber, with no joins, allowing for a beautiful uninterrupted grain pattern.

Our timber slabs are always kiln-dried, down to a moisture content of just 8% or below which means that the wood is stable and will not suffer from excessive movement or cracking.

Our Most Popular Species:

French Oak

French Oak Shelves are on of our most popular sellers – it is a thick, heavy, and dense wood, full of lovely features along the live edges and full of characterful knots and sapwood.  We offer French Oak Shelves either in its natural colour or we can also stain it to a dark chocolate colour – to make it look just like Walnut, without the excessive cost!

Each shelf is meticulously infused with black epoxy resin, sanded, and finished in a top quality Hard-wax finishing oil, which brings out incredible contrast in the natural grain patterns.

Oak – Cocoa (Stained to Dark Walnut Colour)
Oak – Sallek (Natural Finish, No Stain)
English Elm

English Elm Shelves are on of our most popular sellers – it is a dark brown and extremely characterful wood with a medium variation to the live edges.  It is a little more expensive than French Oak but you get what you pay for in the pure incredible character of the wood.

The We spend time meticulously infusing black epoxy resin into every crack and crevice of your wood before we sand and finish it – to provide the ultimate in beauty and natural character.

English Elm is a little more expensive than French Oak due to the rarity of this wood – allow around £234 for a 1m long shelf depending on options.

Brown Oak

Brown Oak emerges as a highly attractive and budget-friendly alternative to the more expensive French Oak, known for its exquisite brown hues that add warmth and elegance to any setting.

Brown Oak offers a similar aesthetic appeal without the hefty price tag. This makes Brown Oak an excellent choice for those looking to achieve a luxurious look and feel in their spaces, without compromising on quality or breaking the bank.

American Black Walnut

American Black Walnut ranks as one of the most highly demanded of all Walnut species.  Thanks to its beautiful look, it is a wood which has incredibly high demand but is relatively rare to come by.

American Walnut is VERY expensive – for real American black walnut please allow £590 per metre!

Pippy Poplar

Pippy Poplar (also known as cat’s paw oak) is characterised by clusters of very small knots often caused by cattle nibbling shoots from the trunk of the tree as it grows, causing new shoots to grow and be nibbled off again, and by the ‘epicormic’ nature of Poplar, whereby trees often sprout new buds underneath their bark or after coppicing.

Shelves made of Pippy Poplar can be made for around £250 per metre.

….We can also source many other species!  Including Ash, Cedar, Cherry, Chestnut, Ambrosia Maple, and more! Just ask and we will be able to source it for you.

Step 2: Choose A Size

We specialize in crafting solid wood shelves tailored precisely to your specifications, ensuring a perfect fit for any space or design requirement. For shelves with a depth of up to approximately 25cm, we offer the innovative solution of hidden floating brackets.

These brackets are ingeniously integrated within the wood, creating a seamless and elegant floating appearance without any visible supports.

For larger shelves, or those intended to bear substantial weight—such as supporting a basin—we provide robust, heavy-duty brackets capable of supporting up to 150kg. This guarantees not only a visually appealing shelving solution but also one with unparalleled strength and reliability.

Standard Floating Brackets

For most applications on shelves that protrude up to 25cm from the wall and are intended to take a moderate amount of weight (no large sinks etc) then our hidden floating brackets provide a truly hidden solution, making your shelf appear as if it is floating.

We take care of the millimetre-precision cutting – you just tell us how big you’d like your shelf.

Heavy Duty Brackets

These heavy duty brackets are rated at 75kg per bracket!  So that means that if we incorporate 2 brackets your shelf would be rated for 150kg assuming you get a good fixing to the wall.

This is ideal for large floating shelves / worktops that need to support a lot of weight, such as a sink, or if its to be used as a floating bench.

If you need heavy duty brackets just let us know – they are very cost effective yet incredibly strong.

Step 3: Choose Your Finishing Options

Edge Styles

We can incorporate any combination of edge styles along the edges of the table.

For example, you might prefer a classic chamfered edge along all faces of the table, or maybe you want a desk to go against a wall, in which case we can offer a square edge to butt against the wall with a beautiful live edge on the opposite side.

Live Edge

Our signature edge style – this is where we preserve the natural edge of the slab which results in an incredibly characterful waney edge which you see throughout our website.  Whether you want a subtle living edge or a really crazy one, we will work with you throughout the build process so you end up with the perfect edge contour that suits your taste.

Chamfered Edge

This is the default edge style we use for any edges of our shelves which are not live edge.

Surface Finishes

We can offer an endless variety of surface finishes, but for those who aren’t sure what they want, we  can keep things simple by offering you a matt finish or a high gloss finish.

Matt Finish

We finish the table in Rubio Monocoat Pure, resulting in an incredibly hard wearing, non-absorbent matt finish which will keep your table protected and scratch free for years to come.

High Gloss Finish

We finish the table in multiple coats of Osmo high-gloss, resulting in an incredibly hard wearing, non-absorbent finish which provides an almost mirror-like shine, while still being resistant to scratching.
