A truly imposing single-slab live edge table, handcrafted by Sam Sorrell in our UK workshop and finished to Sorrell & Smith's exacting standards. Cut from one extraordinary piece of burr English oak, this dining tabletop is 2140mm long and follows the natural live edge of the tree, varying from 90cm to 110cm wide.

Unlike most dining tables, which are made from multiple boards, it is one continuous slab of oak. Timber of this size and character is increasingly rare, offering uninterrupted grain and a more natural, authentic finish.

Burr oak is known for its dense, swirling grain, formed through natural growth irregularities. The natural splits and voids have been stabilised with black epoxy resin, cured and sanded flush, and the slab finished to a smooth, level surface. The result is a refined contrast between the rich burr oak grain and the deep black resin.

At about 55mm thick it is a substantial top, seating 6 people comfortably, or 8 with one at each end.

Tabletop Only, Choose Your Own Base

This listing is for the tabletop only, allowing you to pair it with any suitable steel leg or pedestal base design from our collection.

The important difference is that we don't simply send you a tabletop and a separate box of legs.

Once you've chosen your base, we fabricate it specifically around this individual tabletop, optimising its dimensions and position for stability, legroom and the proportions of the finished table. We then professionally fit the base to the tabletop in our Essex workshop before delivery.

When your table arrives, the mounting points are already prepared and everything has been test fitted, making final assembly straightforward.

A Genuine One-Off Tabletop

Every burr, grain pattern, natural edge and variation belongs to this individual tree. Each burr oak slab is entirely unique, with no repeatable pattern. The live edges follow the natural contours of the tree, creating a more organic appearance compared to straight-edged, machined tables.

Handcrafted in Essex

The tabletop is prepared and finished by hand in our Essex workshop by Sam Sorrell and our team, with no mass production and no robotic machinery.

Choose from our range of bespoke steel legs and pedestal bases, including X-frame, trapezium and statement pedestal designs. Our steel bases are fabricated specifically to suit the proportions and weight of your chosen tabletop and can be powder coated in matt black or a colour of your choice.

Every stage, from slab selection through to finishing, is completed in-house with a focus on structural integrity and long-term durability. We also produce custom tables in Burr Oak, English Elm, Walnut and other premium hardwoods.
