Step 1:

Choose A Wood Species

The first thing to consider when ordering your piece of furniture, is what species of wood you want it to be crafted from.

We are able to source quite literally any species of wood imaginable, however most of our customers choose between our best-selling options which are illustrated below.

We like to use the minimum number of slabs possible to make your furniture piece. If for example you want a dining table that is 1.2m wide, we will use two slabs from the same log to make the piece.

The result is that the slabs are book matched, so you have a beautiful symmetry along the table.

Our timber slabs are kiln-dried, down to a moisture content of just 8% or below which means that the wood is stable and will not suffer from excessive movement or cracking. This is an incredibly important thing - many slabs suppliers offer slabs of low quality and high moisture content, which will only eventually warp or crack!

English Elm

English Elm slabs are on of our most popular sellers - it is a thick, heavy, and dense wood, full of lovely features along the live edges and full of characterful knots and sapwood.

The slabs usually come in widths of up to 65cm which allows a table to be made of up to 1.3m in width using just two slabs.

French Oak

While ‘Oak’ has become somewhat of a household name when it comes to describing quality furniture pieces, we go one step further.

French Oak is the Rolls Royce of Oak - the most consistently high quality oak in the world.

Each of our French Oak tops is made from a single tree, so the grain pattern and colour tones match up beautifully across the entire table top.

American Black Walnut dining table

American Black Walnut

American Black Walnut ranks as one of the most highly demanded of all Walnut species. Thanks to its beautiful look, it is a wood which has incredibly high demand but is relatively rare to come by.

We can create beautiful bookmatched tables made from solid American Black walnut just 2-3 slabs wide since we specialise in sourcing ultra-wide slabs of this wood.

Pippy poplar dining table

Mappa Burr

Mappa Burr, which is made from the Black Poplar tree (also known as cat's paw oak / Pippy Poplar) is characterised by clusters of very small knots often caused by cattle nibbling shoots from the trunk of the tree as it grows, causing new shoots to grow and be nibbled off again, and by the ‘epicormic’ nature of Poplar, whereby trees often sprout new buds underneath their bark or after coppicing.

Burr Oak slab

Burr Oak (single-slab)

For the truly discerning client, we can offer ultra-wide single slabs of rare Burr Oak, sometimes reaching over 1.5m in width. This allows us to craft a dining table between 1m and 1.5m wide from one continuous slab of solid Oak – no joins, just a breathtaking expanse of natural timber.

Burr Oak is renowned for its dramatic character, full of swirling grain and intricate knots, which can be beautifully highlighted with resin infusion for the ultimate statement piece. These slabs are also exceptionally thick, often finishing at up to 60mm, giving the table a bold, luxurious presence that simply cannot be matched.

Step 2:

Choose A Size

At the end of the day, we can build your furniture piece to any size you require, however you may be wondering what size is appropriate for the type of furniture you intend to create.

There are some standard sizes which are industry standard depending on whether you intend to use your table as a Dining Table, Coffee Table, Desk, etc.

You can explore these sizes below.

We take care of the millimetre-precision cutting - you just tell us how big you'd like your table.

Dining Table Sizes

When it comes to custom made solid wood dining tables, 90-100cm would be a standard width. For an extra wide dining table, you may consider a 120cm width which will allow you to easily place flowers / food in the middle of the table while allowing ample room for the diner's place settings.

The length can be whatever you desire, but we would recommend allowing 600mm per diner for a comfortable fit. For example, a 2.4m x 1.2m table would allow for a total of 8 people as a comfortable fit or 10 people as a snug fit. You could also fit a further two people at either end of the table.

The standard finished height of a dining table is around 75cm.

We can create tables of any size, whether large or small.

Coffee Table Sizes

The great thing about Coffee Tables is that since nobody is sitting at the table, they can be as small or large as you desire. Aside from a standard height of 45cm, coffee tables can come in all different sizes.

As a starting point, we would recommend 150cm x 50cm as a standard size for a coffee table. We can create you a bespoke live edge coffee table, or if you prefer, a solid slab straight edged coffee table.

Step 3:

Choose Your Leg Style

Not only are we proud of our tables, we are proud of our legs. This is because all of the legs we provide are custom fabricated in steel and powder coated to any RAL colour of your choice.

Far away from the chinese-made steel legs you find on Ebay, we take pride in the fact that the legs we create are over-engineered and fabricated from incredibly thick and heavy steel.

For example, our shapeshifter legs are made from 100mm x 100mm box section steel which is 4mm thick. Although this kind of metal is usually used to hold up buildings, we use it in our table legs to reflect the absolute quality that we stand for. It is also the only thing which will provide an incredibly solid, imposing look to match our tabletops.

Edge Styles

We can incorporate any combination of edge styles along the edges of the table.

For example, you might prefer a classic chamfered edge along all faces of the table, or maybe you want a desk to go against a wall, in which case we can offer a square edge to butt against the wall with a beautiful live edge on the opposite side.

Our signature edge style - this is where we preserve the natural edge of the slab which results in an incredibly characterful waney edge which you see throughout our website. Whether you want a subtle living edge or a really crazy one, we will work with you throughout the build process so you end up with the perfect edge contour that suits your taste.

Chamfered edge detail

Chamfered Edge

This is the default edge style we use for any edges of our tables which are not live. For example, both ends of a dining table, or on one side of a bench.

Surface Finishes

We can offer an endless variety of surface finishes, but for those who aren't sure what they want, we can keep things simple by offering you a matt finish or a high gloss finish.

We finish the table in Rubio Monocoat Pure, resulting in an incredibly hard wearing, non-absorbent matt finish which will keep your table protected and scratch free for years to come.

High gloss finished tabletop

High Gloss Finish

We finish the table in multiple coats of Osmo high-gloss, resulting in an incredibly hard wearing, non-absorbent finish which provides an almost mirror-like shine, while still being resistant to scratching.

Epoxy Resin River Infusion

As per your bespoke specification, we can design and create a refined resin river in a colour of your choice, tailored precisely to your vision. The piece is then finished with multiple coats of premium Osmo high-gloss oil, enhancing depth, clarity, and durability, and resulting in a truly distinctive, high-end finish that is completely unique to your table.
