Table:
Hand made from solid English Elm, a rare and feature-rich wood.  Carefully selected from our wood supplier and fully kiln dried, the wood was cut from a 500 year old English Elm Tree.  This table is made from two slabs which come from the same log, flipped over and book-matched to provide a symmetrical look across the surface.  We have worked hard to preserve the knots and waney features in this piece, filling any cracks and holes with Black resin to provide a beautifully smooth and natural surface.

Buffed and polished to an almost glass but woody-smooth finish, we use the best hardwax finish oils in the industry to make sure that this table is scratch resistant and built to last a lifetime.  This is meaning that the finish will preserve the table for many years while providing a beautifully smooth and luxurious finish.

The quality of the wood along with our steel reinforcement bars built into the underside of the tabletop mean that the table is built using a method that allows it to naturally expand and shrink with temperature changes while the steel reinforcement bars ensure that the table will never warp or twist, always remaining beautifully flat and smooth, as you would expect from a piece of this quality.

Beautifully characterised by a live edge and made from just two enormous slabs of 100% solid English Elm, this is our best-selling multi-purpose table.  This table is ideal as a dining table or large desk, thanks to its simple and elegant lines, coupled with its unique and imposing steel base and unique live edge design.

Legs:
On this table we have incorporated our best-selling Steel Art legs, made from 3mm thick box steel, these legs are built like tank traps, weighing over 40kg each!

We felt that with such a heavy and solid wood table, only the best steel legs would make the grade to compliment the table top.  The 'overkill' nature of the legs compared to many competitor table legs mean that this table gives a really striking and imposing feel in any room.  The legs are incredibly strong and solid to look at and touch, and ooze a feeling of pure quality.

Is It Real Solid English Elm?

Yes!  Made from the rarest 600 year old English Elm, our Rustic English Elm tops are full of natural character and knots, with contrasting colour tones and English Elm's trademark long flowing grain patterns running the full length and thickness of the table.  This tabletop is made from two slabs, with a width of around 60cm each, seamlessly joined together into a single piece tabletop with a total width of around 120cm.

We as your furniture maker are your guardian angel when it comes to English Elm because of the large variation in quality. Because of our confidence in our timber supplier, we provide you with a solid guarantee on its longevity and happily correct any issues that may arise from wood movement.

Is It Really Handmade?

Sorrell & Smith hand make all of our products.  This means that no robotic machinery is used at any point in producing our products.  Because each piece of wood has natural character, every single piece that leaves our workshop is a one-off piece which has unique character with the knots and swirls.  Our craftsmen build the table in such a way that the grain is opened up like a book, which means that the grain across the whole table matches beautifully and seamlessly.

While many companies pump out “hand built” furniture, put together poorly, from cheap materials, Sorrell & Smith do it differently.  We put obsessive care into every piece that we make, using only the very best materials.  As a result, the end products are show-stopping centrepieces that can set off any luxury dining room.

What Is "Live Edge"?

Live edge or natural edge is a style of furniture where our talented craftsmen incorporate the natural edge of the wood into the design of the piece. There are special challenges involved in creating this type of piece, and Sorrell & Smith have finessed the perfect method for bringing out the natural character of the wood while leaving an impeccably luxurious finish.
