Product Details:
Hand made from solid Black European Poplar (Mappa Burl) -  a rare and feature-rich wood.

Pippy Poplar (also known as cat’s paw oak) is characterised by clusters of very small knots often caused by cattle nibbling shoots from the trunk of the tree as it grows, causing new shoots to grow and be nibbled off again, and by the ‘epicormic’ nature of Poplar, whereby trees often sprout new buds underneath their bark or after coppicing.

Carefully selected from our wood supplier and fully kiln dried, the wood was cut from a 300 year old Poplar tree.  This table is made from a single slab of premium Pippy Poplar.  We have worked hard to preserve the knots and waney features in this piece, filling any natural crevices with Black resin to provide a beautifully smooth and natural surface.

Buffed and polished to an almost mirror like finish, we use the best oils in the industry to make sure that this table is scratch resistant meaning that the finish will preserve the table for many years while providing a beautifully smooth and almost mirror finish.

Beautifully characterised by a live edge and made from 100% solid Pippy Poplar throughout, this is our best-selling multi-purpose Desk.

Legs:
On this table we have incorporated our box hairpin legs, made from thick box steel. These legs are extremely high quality, powder coated and finished in a really unique style compared to traditional hairpin legs.

We felt that with such a high quality Desk, only the best steel legs would make the grade to compliment it.

Is It Real Solid Mappa Burr?

Yes!  Made from the rarest Pippy Poplar, this Rustic Mappa Burr Desk is full of natural character and knots, with contrasting colour tones and Poplar's trademark ripply flowing grain patterns running the full length and thickness of the table.  This table is made from a single slab of solid wood.

We as your furniture maker are your guardian angel when it comes to Poplar because of the large variation in quality. Because of our confidence in our timber supplier, we provide you with a solid guarantee on its longevity.  This Desk is built to last for a few lifetimes.

Is It Really Handmade?

Sorrell & Smith hand make all of our products.  This means that no robotic machinery is used at any point in producing our products.  Every single piece that leaves our workshop is a one-off piece which has unique character with the knots and swirls.  Our craftsmen have created this furniture piece in such a way that the natural grain, live edges, and crevices are preserved and then finished to a beautifully smooth surface.  The gold epoxy resin inside the crevices create an absolutely stunning texture across the whole bench.

While many companies pump out “hand built” furniture, put together poorly, from cheap materials, Sorrell & Smith do it differently.  We put obsessive care into every piece that we make, using only the very best materials.  As a result, the end products are show-stopping centrepieces that can set off any living room.
